Instant Boiler Sizing and Cost Analysis for Sales Teams and Customers
The Web-Based Steam System Configurator was developed to provide fast, self-service boiler sizing and cost analysis without waiting for a formal engineering review. Hosted within Miura Connect, the tool allows users to create documented sizing reports in minutes.
Purpose
The calculator provides immediate evaluation of boiler plant requirements based on project-specific operating conditions. Its goal is to provide consistent, documented sizing recommendations early in the project lifecycle.
Required Inputs
Users enter:
- Project name or identifier
- Facility location
- Fuel type
- Steam pressure
- Maximum, Average, and Minimum steam demand
- Feedwater temperature/pressure
- Annual operating hours
- Additional system configuration information
The calculator also performs real-time validation and flags incompatible input combinations before a report is generated.
Outputs
The calculator generates a complete report package containing:
- Summary — Steam output per boiler, estimated in-service efficiency, yearly fuel costs, and cost per 1,000 lbs of steam.
- Sizing Output — Recommended boiler quantity for both maximum demand and average demand conditions.
- Full Report — Flow diagrams for max and average case, emissions report, steam production in lbs/year, operating hours, and heat input
- Emissions Statement — Includes notes on applicable emissions context for the configuration
Key Assumptions
The calculator's report section explicitly lists its assumptions — As with all engineering tools, the assumptions section included in each report should be reviewed before customer-facing discussions to ensure expectations align with the conditions used in the analysis.
- Scope — Current version sizes boiler plant only — auxiliary equipment (water softener, RO system, blowdown separator, feedwater tank) is not sized and must be addressed separately.
- Emissions — Emissions calculations use standard fuel combustion factors — site-specific air quality permit requirements are not individually modeled.Standard combustion factors for emissions calculations
- Efficiency — In-service efficiency estimate is based on standard Miura boiler performance data — actual efficiency will vary with installation conditions, water quality, and maintenance practices.
- Load Ratios — The tool does not currently size or account for accumulator configurations — systems with high peak-to-average load ratios should be reviewed with Engineering.
