Regeneration Details
SPLIT-FLOW REGENERATION is Miura's unique design for performing a regeneration. Brine flows through the resin from both the top and bottom, meeting at and draining from the middle.


Regenerating Salt Savings through Split-Flow Regeneration
- Soft Water Purity Decline: Normally the purity of soft water will deteriorate if the amount of regenerating salt is decreased. This is especially noticeable in raw water with high hardness.
- Efficient Split-Flow Regeneration: During split-flow regeneration the purity of soft water does not deteriorate even when low amounts of regenerating salt are used, which allows regenerating salt to be conserved

Regeneration Process
Backwash
- Water flows backwards through the resin to loosen up the resin that may have been compacted.
- Loosens up any contaminants that may be trapped within the resin.
- The drain opens during the Backwash stage and the water flows to the drain.
Make sure you perform before opening either tank to perform work/maintenance.
Regeneration Standby
- Can potentially pause the regeneration process.
- This can be initiated from external influence, such as inputs purposefully wired to prevent regeneration during certain situations.
- Internal influences can also cause this to occur, such as insufficient brine concentration in the brine tank.
Under normal operation, this stage is only a momentary pause in the regeneration process, moving onto the next stage quickly.
Brine Injection
- Brine is transferred out of the brine tank and injected into the resin tank
- The Brine Flowmeter measures the intake of brine, ensuring the proper amount is used.
- The MW closely measures the amount of brine that is used in a regeneration to ensure that 100% rejuvenation is achieved without over-injecting brine. This contrasts with other methods utilizing a timer during the brine stage.
The MW-U's brine plate is higher than the industry standard to prevent displacement of the brine solution and to allow for an adequate storage of saturated brine. This allows for a guaranteed volume of brine necessary for a successful regeneration.
NOTE: Large Model MW-U Softeners have a secondary Brine Injection stage and a secondary Slow Rinse stage to ensure a complete wash has occurred and avoid chloride spikes.
Slow Rinse
- Slowly rinses the resin tank and control valve to remove any residual salt and hardness ions from the water softener
- This is to prevent brine or hardness from being fed into the boiler system
NOTE: Large Model MW-U Softeners have a secondary Brine Injection stage and a secondary Slow Rinse stage to ensure a complete wash has occurred and avoid chloride spikes.
Fast Rinse
- Rinses the resin tank at a faster flow rate to fully rinse the resin tank of any residual salt and hardness
- This step ensures that no excess chloride ions are trapped in the tank.
Refill
- Refills the brine tank with water so that brine can be made for the next regeneration cycle.
Service Standby
- The recently regenerated resin tank will go into standby, awaiting its turn to operate.
